Will Jaromir Jagr play at NHL Premiere 2008 in Prague? “I would be unsatisfied, if it won’t happen,” said Glen Sather, Rangers GM. “We still haven’t negotiated about new contract, we will have enough time during summer. But I believe we will make an agreement.”
Would you be said if he leaves?
I would be upset. He is still great player, one of few in NHL who managed to score 600 goals and who will be Hall of Fame member once. More, he is our captain.
What to do to keep him?
Win Stanley Cup. We want and need our captain in our team. And I am sure we will have him.
How it comes you are so sure?
Jaroimr is a friend of mine, I spent a lot of time with him. I respect his talent, character and even sense of humour. He si a great guy.
Are there any unofficial negotiations?
No, belive me, really not. Jaromir still has a chance to extend his contract alone, if he passes certain points. We will make a proposal, which will be acceptable for both sides. We have still several months.
Do you think Jagr is having a tough times this season? His numbers aren’t as high as they used to be…
He is still great player. He is important for our team, he longs for Stanley Cup. I think he still has very good season.
Did he tell you he wants to stay in New York?
He told me he would like to finish his career over there. And he wouldn’t like to play for another team in NHL. These are good signals I suppose.
Will you keep also another Czech players to let them play in Prague?
We will try, it would be good for you and for us as well. But when you negotiate about new contracts, everything could change in a moment. Specially now, when we are limited by salary cap. But I am sure we will do our best to keep all Czechs in our team.
